Congresses ; Foundations ; NeurosciencesAbstract: “Brain sciences not only cover the treatment of neurological disease, but also constitute an important narrative about what it is to be human. That is why a societal discussion on developments in this field is important". This was the plea of Danish medical anthropologist Andreas Roepstorff at the end of the international workshop Connecting Brains and Society (Amsterdam, April 2004).
The discussions concerned the far-reaching scientific and social consequences of the brain sciences. All formal sessions, including the plenary discussions, were recorded and edited for this book by the three science journalists – Marjan Slob, Karin Rondia and Peter Raeymaekers - who also mediated the workshop.
The second part of this book contains a summary of all the social issues raised by the brain sciences, taking them up in a more systematic way and in greater detail.
Both the workshop and the book are a collaborative initiative of the Rathenau Institute and the King Baudouin Foundation.Record link: https://kce.docressources.info/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=457 Hold
